Is it a time machine?

A lass that once I worked with built, from a Chinese kit, a clock that was made ENTIRELY from paper. Even th rods (axles) were a tightly rolled spliff of paper, the gear teeth were paper laminations bonded together in profuse quantities.

It worked, and kept time as good as her grandfather clock. (Not likely to have the longevity of the latter though.)

I used to be an Engineer, albeit only for the first half of my career. You could guarantee hearing it at least once a week in the bit of UMIST that had the piano, though far better were to be heard in the repertoire.

I had mentioned on another thread once having a friend who was a policeman. Sadly he passed away about a decade back. Anyhow, he and I used to go caving together, and caving club sing alongs were far bluer than any other which I have encountered, and he had the largest repertoire of any of us.

The bluest material ever I have heard, has been in cabaret performances. I am not easily offended, so that was not my reaction. Nevertheless, frequently was somewhat shocked by what performers got away with.

"Oranges and lemons,
Say the bells of St. Clement's.

You owe me five farthings,
Say the bells of St. Martin's.

When will you pay me?
Say the bells at Old Bailey.

When I grow rich,
Say the bells at Shoreditch.

When will that be?
Say the bells of Stepney.

I do not know,
Says the great bell at Bow.

Here comes a candle to light you to bed,
And here comes a chopper to chop off your head!
Chip chop chip chop the last man is dead

Its like a zigsaw Bentlegs and you're right, it has no practical purpose but to person like you and me, It has to be figured out how to built it and, Then have the patience to do it, All those cogs, levers and gears need fixing in the right place to make a working mini engineering model, There is a plan to work to but, It does not spoon feed the instructions so, You need a bit of savvy if you get a gear in the wrong way round, It wont work, A great project for a dark night in, Better than Telly

When I was a kid, I really loved Meccano.

I have, on disk, the entire series of 'Meccano Magazine' covering the best part of a Century.

Alec Issigonis, (designer of the Morris Minor and Mini) when he retired asked for a number 10 Meccano set for his retirement present. I always wonder what he made with it.

When I retired, I considered getting the same. Unfortunately, they had become collectors items, so were selling for far more than I would care to spend.
